NEDS "Non Educated Deliquents"

Peter Mullan takes the directorial helm once again in his third feature length film, returning to 1970’s Glasgow in NEDS (which stands for 'Non-Educated Delinquents'), a personal but not autobiographical tale. John McGill is a confident young man, an academic genius and full of potential, however dark clouds lie ahead for him. A poor background, dysfunctional home, an alcoholic father and a repressed mother, are at the root of the problems heading the young man’s way. His school has one or two good teachers, but most are uninterested and unhelpful in the face of bullying and overwhelming gang culture which has spread from local housing estates to the schoolyard.

BROOKLYN BABYLON

"Brooklyn Babylon" begins with some pointed intercutting between a Jamaican rap band in rehearsal and a Hasidic wedding in ecstatic progress. The director, Marc Levin, is establishing images of two cultures on a collision course — the setting is the divided Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn — but he is also suggesting how much the two groups have in common. The Rastafarian rappers and the Hasidic celebrators find inspiration in the same biblical tale: that of the love of King Solomon for the Queen of Sheba. It's that very tale, reinforced by references to "Romeo and Juliet" and "West Side Story," that shapes the movie.

In Jamaica, Jah Bull and Baboo two Rastafarians that sell colored vinyl in an old car. During his journey, Farmer Roots, favorite radio announcer, I quickly took to bring his wife to hospital. Jah Bull and Baboo did not believe in traditional medicine and convince the speaker to bring his wife to the doctor at the camp called Bongo Hu. Broadcasters and the bold plunge into the adventures of two Rastafarians find the famous doctor.

16 Years of alcohol (2003)

16 Years of Alcohol is a 2003 drama film written and directed by Richard Jobson, based on his 1987 novel. The film is Jobson's first directorial effort, following a career as a television presenter on BSkyB and VH-1, and as the vocalist for the 1970s punk rock band The Skids. The cover of the DVD describes it as influenced by A Clockwork Orange and Trainspotting. The soundtrack features 1960s ska and skinhead reggae acts such as Desmond Dekker and Claudette and the Corporation, and 1970s rock bands such as Roxy Music, Velvet Underground, Iggy & The Stooges and The Skids. At the 2003 British Independent Film Awards, the film was nominated for best independent film, and Susan Lynch won the best supporting actor/actress category. Kevin McKidd plays the central character Frankie, a violent alcoholic who is partially based on Jobson's brother and on Jobson himself. The movie was set and filmed in Edinburgh and Aberdour.

Rude Boy: The Jamaican Don

Biggs, a larger-than-life hood in Los Angeles, has his sights set on scheming the drug trade in the United States. With some of his men controlling customs offices in five major cities, and a seemingly endless supply of substances from fellow felons in Jamaica, all Biggs needs is a "mule" to make sure his plan is perfected. Enter Julius, a dancehall DJ with his own visions of fame and fortune. With a violent past in his home country, Julius hopes to make it in America. All he needs is a visa and a passport. Thanks to Biggs, and his island connection Rhino, our wannabe pop star provides the last link in the trafficking puzzle. But when prospects in the U.S. don't pan out quite the way he planned, Julius must go to Biggs for help…and his only option is to return to the life of a hit man that he thought he left behind in Jamaica.
