Bernama asli Kenneth George Boothe lahir di Denham Town, Kingston, Jamaica pada tanggal 22 Maret 1948 , anak bungsu dari tujuh bersaudara ini memiliki hobi menyanyi dari kecil dan karier rekamannya dimulai pada akhir 1950-an ketika ia membentuk duo dengan tetangganya Stranger Cole dan duo tersebut diberi nama  'Stranger & Ken' .
